From the manufacturer

Why Strider?

Through ten years of development, manufacturing improvements, riding, observation, testing and even racing, Strider Bikes has created a bike that allows for anyone to ride no matter their ability, as well as an easy and more successful transition to a pedal bike. Strider specializes specifically in Balance Bikes and in the process the company has developed enhanced features, including footrests for the rider to use for gliding. With Strider’s Four Learn-to-Ride steps, riders can jump on a bike and get moving as soon as the bike is set up. As lovers of riding bikes, Strider loves inspiring anyone to ride. Strider’s mission is to build lightweight, efficient, all-terrain bikes that develop two-wheeled balance, coordination, and confidence. With 1 million sold worldwide, Strider hopes to continue to reach families around the world.

Why Balance Bikes?

The balance bike is a simple design to teach anyone at any age how to steer and balance on two wheels without training wheels. Since the bike has no pedals or other complicated forms of propulsion, most riders come to find that riding a balance bike is as easy as walking. Riders do not have to fear when they are on a balance bike because they can place their feet solidly on the ground. As the rider progresses at his or her own pace, they can join in on the excitement of riding a bike with others and even change to a traditional bicycle if they are ready.

Features of the Strider 16 and 20 Bike

Handlebar

A low 3 degree sweep is a highlight of these standard 22.2mm, 600mm wide handlebars. Pressed in bearings keep the 1 1/8 inch stem turning smoothly.

Tires

The cross terrain tires offer a smooth ride on all surfaces while maintaining traction in the dirt. The tire size is 1.75 - 16 and offer a 42 lb. max PSI inflation rating.

Seat

The fully padded seat is mounted on a rail allowing multiple front to back and seat angle adjustments. A 25.4mm seatpost comes standard on the 16 inch bike.

Bar and Seat Clamps

Machined aluminum quick release allows 'No Tools' saddle height adjustment.

Footrest

Unique, footrests can be added or removed to adjust to the rider's size and ability.

Brake Mount

Frame mounted front and rear V brakes grace the 16 inch model. These brakes offer greater stopping power compared to a standard caliper style brake.

This balance bike is excellent! It was purchased for my 8 year old grandson who has special needs issues and was unable to balance enough to ride a regular bike. He loves his bike, and is now able to ride, balance, and glide. He uses it not only on concrete, but also on dirt and grass. Highly recommend it!

Well made bike and sturdy. My son has been using a strider since he was 18 months old and wanted a big boy strider.

I have been a faithful Strider owner for a long time. Our 4 year old boy out grew his 12' so we decided to get him the 16' along with an Islabike so he could still enjoy riding through the woods as a family while he learns to pettle on his Islabike without training wheels. The Strider Bike came in yesterday. It's a very heavy bike for a 16". Everything was great except one thing, the front brakes. The front brake rubbed against the front tires. I tried to adjust the brakes, but on delivery, the adjustment screw was stripped. The back brake were fine. My son came home and saw the bike and wanted to ride it so for the sake of not having to deal with returning it. I just took the front brake off so he could ride his new balance bike. I may call strider and ask about the brake and see if I can get them replace under warranty, but never the less the bike is nice and I'm sure my son will enjoy it. I'm just disappointed in the brakes that came with this one.

    Exactly what we wanted

We purchased this for our son who is almost six years old because he was in love with his younger brothers Strider but he was just too big for it. When we first purchased it he was really not sure about it and seemed resistant. It is a bit big for him still which I think is where the hesitation came from. As he grows into it more I am sure it will be easier for him to maneuver.

When we first purchased the bike the handle bar was super stiff, but we simply added some lubricant to it and it worked just fine. This bike, unliked the original Strider, does have actual wheels instead of the harder kind that cannot go flat. It also comes with a hand break.

I thin if I had to say one bad thing about this bike, its that the side rails on the back stick out kind of far and can make it a little precarious to ride until they get the hang of it.

I think this will give my son many years of enjoyment until he can feel comfortable enough to ride a bike with pedals.

Assembly instructions are very weak and no help is available online but a couple of quick videos.

The front brakes completely locked up the front wheel without even touching the brake handle. The adjustment video was not helpful - I followed the very limited instructions but no tension was relieved. I've decided to remove the brake pads altogether. One rear brake pad is still rubbing and the adjustments did very little to address that.

After the rain stops, my son will take his first lesson. I hope the brakes don't hinder him much. This was an expensive bike and I didn't expect this much trouble.

You will need to be able to assemble this bike but I could. I'm a mom with tools. This bike is the biggest fit for 8year old seriously. My son hates pedal bikes. He rides this and a dirt bike. Glides super smooth and has a kick stand.
