UPDATE: I've put a few hundred miles on this, incl some torential muddy rainstorms, and it is giving me flawless silent and instantaneous shifts with friction bar end shifters. Highly recommended combined with ratchetting friction shifters and a six cog flywheel. I do not miss indexing at all.
I'm using this derailleur with friction shifters on an old 12 speed. It was easy to adjust, and my shifts have been fast, quiet, and smooth. I'm going for an off-brand fashion statement with Sunrace parts, this and my crankset, and I'm super happy with it all so far. If you plan on indexing this thing, make sure you do your research on the pull, etc.
