Although the Terry Butterfly saddle is the most popular of its line, not all women need a saddle quite as wide or as padded. Professional women racers often prefer lighter weight, less padded saddles. The FLX series is the latest in Terry Bicycle’s saddle design featuring a unique shape and lighter weight. There are a few things to look for when deciding which is the optimal saddle for your riding and anatomy. First you’ll want to know the width between your sit bones. Easily measurable, this tells you the approximate width of a saddle necessary to support your sit bones. While the Terry Butterfly measures 155mm, the FLX is a narrower 142mm. Cushioning is also another thing to look at while trying to choose a saddle. And while none of Terry’s saddles feature the super soft gel of days of yore that often caused more sores than it prevented, they do have varying grades of supportive cushioning. The FLX is one of its minimally padded saddles. Additionally, the FLX features a unique shape. Rather than a traditional one-piece pear-shape with a cutout, the shell is designed with an almost complete cutaway from the back area between the paddle to the nose. This does two things. First, it gives you pressure relief for soft tissue zones along the entire length of the saddle. Second, it provides two very distinct perches for your sit bones so that you won’t slide around trying to locate the perfect position. The rails of the FLX are constructed from durable Manganese and the entire saddle is covered in black leather with classic white patent leather accents.The Terry FLX saddle is 260mm long by 142mm wide.
