this rack is a great option if your bike doesn't have the eyelets or ...
Overall, this rack is a great option if your bike doesn't have the eyelets or braze-ons that most pannier racks require. I mounted a pair of Ortlieb panniers to this without trouble. Some people have mentioned this rack will swing while turning, and there is an easy solution for this. If you have a standard diameter seatpost, cut a piece of rubber gasket 2 inches wide by 3.5 inches long and wrap that around your seatpost first before securing the rack. This will provide the friction to stop the rack from swaying. My only gripe is it tends to rattle when going over bumps.

This is an excellent rack. It is very light and sturdy. It took 5 minutes to mount using only a hex key. The mount is very solid and the rack does not move. I purchased the rack together with two Wald #582 rear folding baskets, which are also excellent Wald 582 Rear Folding Bicycle Basket (12.75 x 7.25 x 8.5, Black). Perfect for carrying stuff around campus and for light shopping. Highly recommended combo.

This is my second order from Niagara Cycle Works through Amazon. Last time was a set of Topeak fenders and they rock. This time, I wasn't so lucky: I believe I got sent a used rack, and they screwed up on the other item in my order.

I admit, this rack is pretty sweet. It's very lightweight and pretty sturdy. I'm a short person (5' 9") so I was worried about having enough clearance to fit it on, but it fit without problem (I'm just left with little space on top of the rack for any medium or large trunk bag). The downside is, two of the bolts were partially stripped, making this a bear to install; additionally, there was no rear light bracket - I searched the entire box (and it was a big box, ZERO padding, and was partially crushed in shipping, but thankfully nothing appears to have been damaged) but alas, no bracket.

Finally, the tube could be very useful for storing spare tubes or something, but I wouldn't trust that dinky plastic end-cap it came with. This is one of the few really awesome racks out there for full suspension bikes, and I would recommend it hands-down over everything else I've seen. You will probably have a better experience than me, if you happen to get one that wasn't previously used, hah.

If you have a full suspension bike, this is the only kind of rack that will work. I like it because it is NOT a quck-release type of rack, a theft-protection benefit. I like it because saving every gram of weight at the expense of sturdiness was NOT a priority. It is a relatively heavy rack, but one that will certainly hold up longer than my previous rack, Sometimes I carry heavy loads, my record was 51 pounds of groceries.

I DON'T like the material they used to grip the seatpost. It is too slippery, and with even a moderate load the rack swivels on the seatpost and causes the panniers to rub on the tire. You can ruin panniers really quickly that way. I have tightened the four clamp screws as much as I dare (they are threaded into aluminum, and I'm afraid to make them any tighter). I think I will try drilling and tapping a hole in center of the clamp and pinning it into the seatpost.

Perhaps my experience was unique, but I had several problems with this product. First of all, the bolts are buttery soft, and I was extra careful, but they still wanted to strip. I contacted the company who mailed me some more. They did this courteously and quickly.

However, try as I might, both with a gasket made from an old inner tube and without, and I could not get this securely mounted to my road bike post. There was very little clearance, so this may have added to the problem. My bike is very old, so perhaps the seat post is different? In any event, I returned it.

These are strong and nicely made racks. They make a bike without lugs for mounting a rack more useful. My girlfriend and I can go to market now on Schwinn Homegrowns and return with groceries.

Note - first shipment only came with 3 bolts, Amazon quickly issued a return which delayed me enjoying these for 4 days but of course, Amazon was incredibly helpful, gave me $5 credit and upgraded shipping

Purchased this rack with pannier support because I previously owned the Nashbar weatherproof panniers and wanted a rack that I could easily install for 5 days a week for my commute to work and remove on the weekends for longer rides in the Bay Area - this is on a Cannondale Synapse (aluminum frame) - I put a Macbook and a change of clothes in the panniers which seldomly exceeds 10 lbs and so this was a perfect solution for me. I did take an 1/8inch thick rubber sheet and cut it down to 2 x 3.5" to wrap around my seatpost before bolting on the rack - I did this for two reasons: (1) I wanted to ensure that the rack did not scratch my frame/seatpost (2) I wanted to help prevent it from sliding from side to side - the fear I had with this rack was that it could potentially shift side to side and get caught in my spokes (had read this on forums). After receiving the rack I verified that even worse case, it is designed such that it will hit the tire first and not the spokes - the rubber padding helps in reducing the side to side movement while preventing damage/scratching of your post. It would have been nice for the rack to come with this rubber but it was a few extra dollars for the piece of mind. Overall, despite the issues with receiving a rack with only 3 screws, and the need to add a rubber interface (for me) - great product, looks slick on the bike, adds increased functionality to a bike for light commuting (not long trips - due to weight restrictions), and easy to pull on/off for weekend trips!

    Thanks Amazon!

The item was shipped to my home the next day after I ordered it; due to we have an Amazon warehouse location close to our home. Was able to install in without any issues; I did use piece of an old tube to wrap around the seat post before I bolted it on to keep it from slipping. I cut it just the size of the clamp so you cannot see the rubber. I used it several time with panier and a trunk bag weighing about 18 pounds without any issues. They held the bags in place and did not interfere with riding my bike. This rack is good to use if you do not have any braze ons on your bike or if you have a full suspension bike and you want to transport up to about 25 pounds of stuff. I would recommend if you are looking for an option like this one you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars I've been using it for a few days and I'm pretty satisfied with it

I'm using this rack on a frame that doesn't have braze-ons for mounting a rack. I've been using it for a few days and I'm pretty satisfied with it. The mount onto the seat post feels really solid. The mount is **not** a quick release, but I feel way more comfortable leaving it on my bike locked up outside if it's firmly mounted to the seat post.

Follow-up: After using it for a couple of weeks, I'd advise that you make sure you have similar weights on *both* sides of the rack, it's significantly more stable that way.
